More Than a Scrimmage

It got hot.

Really hot.

But nobody seemed to care much.

Yesterday, Capital High School's freshmen, sophomores, and varsity teams took the field for a preseason scrimmage. A chance to get some reps, knock off the rust, and see what we've got heading into the season.

Then came the BBQ.

Players, parents, brothers and sisters, coaches, friends, and supporters all came together to eat, hang out and enjoy a little time together. It was one of those days that reminds you that high school football is about a lot more than what happens between the lines.

And the people who made it happen were working their asses off long before the first snap.

The Capital football booster parents were there early and stayed late. Grilling, serving, organizing, cleaning, and doing whatever needed to be done to make sure the boys, coaches, and families were taken care of. They put in a ton of work, mostly behind the scenes, so everyone else could simply enjoy the day.

That's what makes a football program.

Not just touchdowns, tackles, and wins.

It's the players. The coaches. The parents. The siblings. The volunteers. The people who show up and put in the work because they believe in these kids.

I'm lucky enough to get to photograph a little piece of it.

I've put all of the photos from the scrimmage and BBQ here for the players and families to use however they want. Social media, team posts, senior-year memories, or just to have.

Enjoy the photos.

And here's to a great season, Capital.

Go Eagles.
