Game On. Lights On. Capital Wins.
After last week’s loss to Boise, I had a pretty good feeling Capital was going to show up ready.
And they did.
Borah was coming to town, and beating Borah is kind of a big deal around Capital. This isn't just another Friday night game where everyone goes home and forgets the score by Monday. This one matters.
The weather even decided to get involved. A little rain. Football under the lights. Student section going nuts.
And by “student section,” I mean Capital’s.
The Capital kids showed up. They were loud and exactly what a high school football student section is supposed to be.
The Borah student section?
Well... let’s just say attendance was apparently optional.
But the few Borah kids who did show up managed to make their presence known at one point by chanting “OVERRATED!” at Capital’s Quincey Clay.
Which was a bold strategy.
Because Quincey definitely heard them.
And then proceeded to take off for a touchdown while staring directly at the Borah students most of the way.
I don't know what the official coaching point is on maintaining eye contact with the opposing student section while scoring a touchdown, but I'm pretty sure it's not in the playbook.
It was fantastic.
That's just one little moment from a game where Capital looked like a team that had something to prove.
After getting knocked around by Boise last week, the boys came out ready to play. They were physical, they were flying around, and they looked like a team that wasn't interested in letting another Friday night slip away.
The coaches have been busting their asses. The players have been busting theirs. And you could see it all come together.
They deserved this one.
And Capital beat Borah.
That’s a pretty damn good Friday night.
