Tough Nights Make Tough Teams
Friday night in Kuna was a tough one.
Capital came into the game 3-1 and playing some damn good football. Kuna came in 1-3, had lost a few games by a handful of points, and Friday night was homecoming.
Add in a road game, against a homecoming crowd, and with a team that was tired of losing close games, and I guess you had the perfect storm.
Kuna won 27-21.
I can't really put my finger on exactly why. That's probably what makes football so frustrating and so great.
Capital's defense played their asses off. They were on the field a lot, and the fact that they only gave up 27 points says something. They kept battling, kept getting after it, and kept giving the offense opportunities.
But sometimes football just doesn't go your way.
This was also, I think, the first and probably only time I'll get to see Capital play on actual natural grass this season. I love football on grass. The smell, the dirt, the way the game looks and feels on it. But that's another story.
Friday's story was Kuna wanting it more.
Capital definitely wanted it. They came to play. They fought until the end.
But Kuna wanted it just a little bit more, and they figured out a way to get it done in front of their home crowd.
That's football.
It's why you play the game.
You can be the team with the better record. You can be playing better football coming into the game. You can have all the momentum in the world.
None of that matters after kickoff.
On any given Friday night, it's anybody's game to win or lose.
And that's one of the things I love about football. The lessons aren't just about football.
Anyone who has played this game for any length of time knows that you take the hard lessons from practice and games with you long after the Friday night lights go out.
Wanting it more than the guy standing across from you is one of those lessons.
Kuna wanted it more.
And they earned the win.
Sometimes you just have to tip your hat, learn the lesson, and get ready for next week.
Looking forward to next Friday night.
Go Eagles.
