The Eagles are in.
After a season of hard hits, big plays, tough losses, incredible wins, and plenty of lessons learned, the Capital Eagles are officially headed to the Idaho 6A State Football Playoffs.
Ranked No. 10. Still playing football. Still in the fight.
This Friday, October 30, the Eagles head to Rexburg to take on Madison High School at 7 p.m.
Win and advance. Lose and go home.
It's that simple.
Here's something worth thinking about: The Eagles are just three wins away from playing for a state championship.
Three wins.
Three opportunities to line up across from another team and prove you want it more. Three opportunities to play for your brothers, your coaches, your school, and everyone who's been in your corner all season.
Forget the rankings. Forget the records. Forget what happened in September or October. None of that matters when the ball is kicked off Friday night.
What matters is what happens between the whistles. Who blocks harder. Who tackles better. Who executes. Who refuses to quit.
And who wants it more.
To the players, I want you to do something.
Close your eyes.
Imagine Friday night in Rexburg. The lights. The cold air. The noise. The butterflies before kickoff.
Now imagine the fourth quarter. The clock hits zero. You look up at the scoreboard.
You won.
Your teammates are running onto the field. Helmets are flying. Coaches are hugging players. Everyone is screaming. All those early mornings, all those hours in the weight room, all those practices when you were tired and sore, all those sacrifices suddenly feel worth it.
Can you feel it?
Really feel it?
Good.
Now open your eyes.
That feeling is out there waiting for you. But nobody is going to hand it to you.
You have to go earn it. Every snap. Every block. Every tackle. Every yard.
You've worked too hard and come too far to be satisfied with just making the playoffs.
The opportunity is right in front of you.
Three wins from playing for a state championship.
But first, one game. One opponent. One Friday night.
Let's go make it happen.
